New Beginning Soup Kitchen

The New Beginning Soup Kitchen was started in June, 2000, by four members of the New Beginning Baptist Church.  We had been going to McDowell, Marion County W. Virginia once a quarter taking money, food items, and clothing.  Jane Camby said if Rutherford County doesn't start doing better we'll have to do something here instead of in W. Virginia.  That was out last trip.

We started off with six people... then fourteen... then twenty five... and up it went.  We were serving over 150 weekly when we lost the building on Cleghorn, but we we never missed serving a meal.

The highest amount we have served is 660 but we are steady on 550.  We have a large group of churches that help.  At present we are delivering 150 home deliveries.  This is all only possible dues to prayers and donations from individuals and churches in the community.

If you need a meal, or would like to help, we are open weekly, on Thursday, at the Green River Baptist Association office.  Please contact the church for more information.
